The recipient of this year’s Award has been an LPN since 2004 and is currently employed as the Wellness Coordinator in a continuing care facility. She is described as a dedicated, outstanding and exceptional LPN, leader and professional. The focus of her practice is on the Alzheimer unit where she has earned the respect of the staff, other professional colleagues and the families who originally had doubts about her position because of her status as an LPN.

She has a passion for education and continuous learning, and is always on the hunt for knowledge and best practices that will improve staff education and the care they provide to the residents. Her knowledge and skills as a nurse inspire others to be the best they can. She has developed outstanding relationships with the physicians, physiotherapists and the home care nurses. She continuously collaborates with them to ensure all avenues are investigated and the best decisions made for the residents.

As a leader, this LPN provides a positive attitude in a loving and supportive environment. The staff love to come to work and when they have concerns, they believe they are heard. Staff is empowered by the constant positive feedback they are provided with and the good she sees in everyone and demonstrates through a hug or a pat on the back.

This LPN is a dedicated resident advocate and recognizes each one as a unique person, not a number or a disease. She knows their personal history, their families and treats each of them as she treats her own family. Her knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease is amazing and she shares that with staff and families to ensure their understanding as well. She has the uncanny ability to anticipate the needs of the residents and act before a problem escalates.

For this LPN, success is not measured by the amount of money she makes or the status she attains. It is measured by the smiles on the residents faces each day. She says, “I love what I do. I love being an LPN. I would not change a thing.”

Please join me in congratulating Chloe Silver, LPN, as the recipient of the 2011 Pat Fredrickson Award of Excellence in Leadership.
