NEW 2012 Nomination Package

The Fredrickson-McGregor Education Foundation for LPNs invites nominations for the Awards of Excellence. These awards honor and pay tribute to LPNs who demonstrate exemplary leadership, nursing education (preceptoring), and practice in Alberta. LPN Award Winners receive $1000, a commemorative crystal award at the Celebration and Awards Dinner during the CLPNA’s Spring Conference, and the individual’s contribution is highlighted in CARE magazine.

Pat Fredrickson Excellence in Leadership Award

The Pat Fredrickson Excellence in Leadership Award was established in 2007 to honour Pat Fredrickson, a woman of vision, leadership and credibility who served the LPN profession for over 40 years, including 20 years as the Executive Director/Registrar of the CLPNA. Employers and colleagues are invited to nominate outstanding LPNs who consistently demonstrate excellence in leadership through their professionalism, advocacy, communication, and passion for the profession.

Rita McGregor Excellence in Nursing Education/Preceptor Award 

The Rita McGregor Excellence in Nursing Education/Preceptor Award was established in 2007 to honour Rita McGregor, a strong advocate for LPNs who inspired many to share their knowledge and passion for the profession during her 20 years as Director of Practice and Policy for the CLPNA. Employers and students are invited to nominate outstanding LPN Nursing Educators, or a designated Preceptor in a clinical setting, who consistently demonstrates excellence in the provision of nursing education in their workplace.

Laura Crawford Excellence in Nursing Practice Award 

The Laura Crawford Excellence in Nursing Practice Award was established in 1994 to honour Laura Crawford for her strong belief in and commitment to LPNs. Through education, Laura motivated LPNs to demonstrate excellence in nursing practice by improving their knowledge and skills. Employers and colleagues are invited to nominate outstanding LPNs who consistently demonstrate excellence in practice through exemplary nursing knowledge, skills, attitude and judgement; promoting an atmosphere of teamwork; pride in the profession; and mentoring team members.

Interprofessional Development Award

The Interprofessonal Development Awards recognize non-LPN health care leaders who are instrumental in building quality practice environments. Nominees are chosen by LPNs, who believe that the individual has contributed to an overall positive environment for the health care team. The Award Winner receives a commemorative crystal award at the Celebration and Awards Dinner during the CLPNA’s Spring Conference, a letter of commendation to their employer, and the individual’s contribution is highlighted in the CARE magazine.


David King Education Bursary

The David King Education Bursary was established in 1998 to assist LPNs pursuing Education or Adult Education degrees/certificates.

The Bursary assists applicants to cover costs associated with tuition, books and materials of an approved educational program. Bursary funds are valid for one year for courses applied for between April 30 and May 1.
David King was the first chairperson of the Education Foundation.
